One week Intensive Course
Monday 11 March to Friday 15th March (inclusive)
This week is designed for those with little or no experience who would like to gain a broad basic knowledge of floristry whether for home use or future career. It is perfect for all ages and will cover colour harmonies and Principles and Elements of Design. Plenty of theory will be covered to give you the knowledge to design flowers for weddings, funerals, contracts and gifts. Lots of tips and tricks of the trade will be discussed.
Day 1 – Handtied bouquets – various designs.
We will cover traditional gift handtied bouquets, bridal handtied bouquets, overarm tied bouquets, tied sheath for funerals. We will also cover modern massed handtied designs. Beverley will demonstrate each design and you will make each style, 2 of which you will be able to take home with you. We will also cover basic Principles and Elements of Design on this workshop and colour harmonies to ensure you create the perfect handtied bouquet. Some gift wrapping techniques will also be covered along with bow making.
Day 2 – Arrangements – Round posy, oval, top table, front facing arrangement (pedestal).
Beverley will demonstrate each design and explain in detail. We will cover the Principles and Elements of Design to enable you to make each of these designs. You will make 2 designs to take home. We will also cover colour harmonies – these will be expanded on from day 1.
Day 3 – Funeral work – Sprays (single and double ended), Wreath (garden style and based).
Beverley will demonstrate each of these designs and you will make 2 take home with you. We will cover formal and informal wreath design. We will cover basic Principles and Elements of Design and colour harmonies. We will discuss how to take a funeral order and how to help the customer with their choice of design.
Day 4 – Wedding – shower bouquet, modern bouquets, simple wiring techniques – buttonholes, corsages.
Beverley will demonstrate each of these designs and you will make 2 designs to take home with you. We will cover the Principles and Elements of Design to enable you to make these designs in a professional way. We will also discuss colour harmonies and how to match flowers and colours to Bridesmaids fabrics. We will also discuss which designs work with particular dresses, this is vital in bridal work and we will cover this extensively. There will be a mock up bridal consultation for you to see how to help your bride with their choices.
Day 5 – Advanced wiring Techniques for weddings.
We will cover wired headdresses and a wired Victoria posy. This will ensure you have sound wiring skills. Beverley will demonstrate some modern and interesting wiring techniques. You will make a wired headdress and a Victoria posy to take home.
For each design we will discuss the suitability of materials, flowers and foliages. We will also discuss quantities of materials required and how to source materials. We will cover basic pricing and we will also look at local and national suppliers.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be included.
All flowers and sundries are included. Please note that flowers will be re-used for some designs.
The One Week Intensive Course – you can add 10 sessions of complete wedding experience by joining us on the set up of 10 weddings within 6 months of the wedding season – your choice of dates. For this invaluable experience the cost will be £1,000.
For a further £1,000 you can shadow Beverley for 1 month when you can attend bridal consultations (usually 3 per week), buying trips / visiting wholesalers, makeup work in the studio and attending 5 wedding set ups of your choice. This is the perfect way to gain experience especially if you want to set up as a wedding or party florist.
